# Cost control

> Ask your agent to estimate a pilot and reconcile its recorded usage.

[Agent guide: CLI and SDK instructions →](/docs/cost-control)

## 1. Have your context ready

Have the proposed task, representative input, intended budget, and any existing run or execution identity.

## 2. Ask your agent

Paste this into your agent, then provide your task and example inputs when it asks:

```deepline-prompt theme={null}
/deepline-gtm Review the cost of this Deepline task before expanding it. Inspect live pricing, required access, and the operations that could run. Distinguish workspace funds, the monthly workspace cap, and an enforced per-run cap. Explain whether a Play already has a per-run cap and whether a run-specific override is appropriate. Child Plays share the run cap; work already admitted is not undone. A budget stated in chat does not enforce a cap. Propose a representative pilot. After an approved run, read usage scoped to that run or direct execution, keeping pending amounts separate from settled usage. Do not change funding or caps without approval.
```

Complete any requested sign-in yourself. Give the agent the missing information before approving execution. Provider-backed work can incur usage.

## 3. Review the result

The estimate is labeled separately from recorded usage. Cost per accepted result uses the actual scoped evidence; subtracting workspace balances does not isolate one job.

Ask your agent:

```deepline-prompt theme={null}
/deepline-gtm Compare the result with the acceptance rule we agreed. Show the evidence for accepted and rejected outcomes, unresolved questions, and recorded Deepline usage where work ran. If work is still running or a response is uncertain, inspect the original saved execution before proposing another request. Explain the next decision I need to make.
```

Approve a larger job, recurring work, or external changes only after reviewing that decision.

## Check your understanding

Your workspace balance fell by 20 credits while two jobs ran. Can you assign all 20 credits to your pilot?

> **Show the answer**
>
> No. Read usage scoped to the run or direct execution. Workspace balance
> includes other work and does not isolate the pilot.
